Strawberry Moon over Six Mile Lake

As part of our butter tart festival weekend, my camping buddies and I spent two nights at Six Mile Lake Provincial Park, about 30 minutes north of Midland in Ontario’s cottage country. Booking early ensured a waterfront site, and it did not disappoint! While the park has many sites suited for car- and trailer-camping, being close to the lake meant it was very convenient for canoe launching. Although I usually prefer backcountry sites for their isolation and tranquility, it’s hard to beat drive-in sites for ease of access and convenience (and showers).

The park is located right off Highway 400 so there is some traffic noise, but nothing too bothersome. I was able to pitch my tent right next to the water which was a real treat. Beach areas and watercraft rentals also make Six Mile Lake a popular family stop for day trippers.

In the evening, we were treated to a Strawberry (June) moonrise over the lake, a great opportunity for some nighttime photography.

All the photos in this post were processed in Adobe Lightroom using the “Through the Woods” workflow bundle from Sleeklens. The kind folks there provided me a copy for evaluation, and I must say that they are easy to install and very effective tools. Designed specifically for landscape editing, the workflows are well thought out and a great starting point for post-processing your RAW image files. Some of the presets I initially found a little heavy-handed for my taste, but with some additional tweaking I’m very happy with the results! Let me know what you think of the various ‘looks’ in the comments section below.

Less time in front of a computer means more time out in the field taking pictures. You can check out more of their workflows on their website or Pinterest page – from landscape to portraiture and weddings, they pretty much cover the whole spectrum, including a free Starter Pack.
