The end of another year – and decade – is quickly approaching and as always, it’s time to reflect on the year gone by. Looking back at the pictures posted, I’m amazed at how much activity has been squeezed into a year that has seemingly just blown past us. This is now the 7th year I’ve been bouncing between east and west, spending winters in Hong Kong and summers in Canada, and really getting the best of both worlds. I am a truly fortunate guy (as my friends like to remind me, constantly)!
As usual, the summer months were filled with as many camping excursions as humanly possible, the high point being an amazing backcountry trek through the Assiniboine region of the Canadian Rockies, peppered with many more smaller trips in Ontario. And then there was a nostalgic homecoming to Denmark, a return visit to my birthplace of Copenhagen (my first in a decade).
Winter in Hong Kong offers beautiful hikes and convenient side trips to neighbouring destinations like Taiwan and Japan, perfect for long weekend getaways (Japan especially, you’ve no doubt noticed). And while Hong Kong is still going through spasms of political unrest, let’s hope the worst is behind us and a peaceful outcome can be reached. What better than to make that our New Year’s resolution for this beautiful city?
And with that, thank you for joining me on my many journeys this year. Come back in 2020 and let’s do it again!
