I met Irfam at the Dzamja Mosque in Etobicoke, the home of the Bosnian Islamic Association, at the Doors Open Toronto event. Very polite and soft spoken, he explained to me the basic tenets of Islam gave me a brief tour of the main prayer room. He was a bit shy to have his picture taken, and thought he wasn’t very photogenic – I’d have to disagree!
The shelves in the background were filled with religious books and teachings, which I thought was an appropriate backdrop for Irfam’s student demeanor. I later found out that he is the son of the mosque’s Imam!
The photograph is not as sharp as I would like (a bit of camera shake using the long lens) and the lighting a bit tricky. Maybe this will encourage me to start learning how to use strobes. 🙂
This picture is #7 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page.
